Mark Read is an artist, educator, filmmaker and political activist based in Brooklyn. His political documentary films have appeared in numerous festivals, including Tribeca Film Festival, Human Rights Watch Film Festival, Rooftop Films, and the Vermont Film Festival. His work has also been broadcast nationally on WorldLink TV and Free Speech TV. His most recent film, Dance of Death, appeared in the 2006 Whitney Biennial. He has worked on a variety of interventionist projects with Occupy Wall Street and other activists, but is best known for a series of projections on the Verizon building on November 17th, 2011, and the subsequent initiation of The Illuminator, a mobile guerilla light projection unit (aka a Ford van with a big projector installed in it). He likes to call it a "spectacularization machine."
