Zhao Gang

Born in 1961 in Beijing, Zhao Gang is a painter and was part of the Chinese avant-garde Stars collective that staged influential art exhibitions in 1979. He later studied art in Holland and in New York and became an American citizen. After the tragic student movement in China in 1989, Gang faced disillusionment and anxiety over his national identity. He now lives and works in Beijing. He has exhibited in galleries and museums across the world, including in the United States, Germany, Hong Kong, China, France and Japan.
