Astra Taylor is a writer, cultural commentator and documentarian born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and raised in Athens, Georgia. She recently wroteThe People’s Platform: Taking Back Power and Culture in the Digital Age, which considers giant technology companies and the state of the Internet as a democratizing force. Her first film, Zizek!, featured the Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Žižek and was screened around the world. Her next film, Examined Life, was a series of excursions with contemporary thinkers and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2008 before opening theatrically. Taylor has also contributed to Monthly Review, Adbusters, Salon, Alternet, The Nation, BOMB Magazine and other outlets.
